This week for letter O has been all about otters! Esmeralda and I have been reading Oscar Otter, an I Can Read Book by Nathaniel Benchley. For letter N, Esmeralda and I wanted to take a look at a flower so we ended up looking at the Narcissus. There is actually a lot of interesting facts about the Narcissus that was a learning experience even for me! We got our information from The Flower Expert. Here is some of what we learned:

For letter M, I chose for us to learn about the classic mockingbird. We found a picture and a ton of information about the mockingbird at BirdWatching-Bliss.com. Here are some things we learned:

Males build nests and females line them, a process of 4-8 days!
Lay blue-green eggs marked with brown, about 3-5!
State bird of 5 states: Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas!

We read another Eric Carle book for letter L. This time we read The Grouchy Ladybug! Unfortunately, neither Esmeralda or Emilio cared for this book. I did not either. It was way too repetitive. It had a good storyline, but it was just so boring that the kids would just walk away not even halfway through the book while I sat there alone reading the rest. So instead of doing ladybug for letter L, I chose to do lobster, as found in the book we read. For information about lobsters, 
This week, we have been reading the book Does a Kangaroo Have a Mother, Too? by Eric Carle so we decided to look at kangaroos for our nature alphabet book this week! Both my 3.5 year old and 1.5 year old enjoy this book, so Esmeralda loved learning about kangaroos. For information about kangaroos, we visited the encyclopedia website! Here are some things we learned:

For Letter J, we looked at the junco birds! Unlike last week, Esmeralda was not too interested in learning about them. We barely skimmed through the little that she would hold attention for. The only thing she liked was the sound clips. She did not even like the video. To find some information on the junco bird, Esmeralda and I looked at the Dark-eyed Junco page at All About Birds! When we looked at the map, we saw that the junco is a popular bird in the state we live in year-round. 
Letter I is all about iguanas! I started Letter I off this week with flash cards, one being an iguana. I had no idea that Esmeralda was so excited about iguanas until then, so I was glad that I had planned out iguana for our Letter I addition to our nature book.

The Letter H addition is super late, thanks to the fact that my family and I just cannot get a break with sickness. My 18 month old is going on two weeks with a massive cold that he passed to me a week ago, and I am also still sick from it. It's awful. Anyway, never fear, I finally found the energy to continue my 3.5 year old's school stuff. So Letter H brings us the harp seal addition to our nature alphabet book!

Our next addition for the nature alphabet is for Letter G. We chose gorillas as our topic! We found a page on EnchantedLearning called All About Gorillas! They had a ton of information with cute little clip art images of gorillas as well. There was so much information that we just skimmed through and read a couple sentences of each subheading on the page. Here are some things we learned:

At Dave's Garden we found some information about forget-me-nots since we did not know anything about these flowers except for the fact that they are flowers.
