This week for letter D, Esmeralda is excited to add a dolphin to her nature alphabet book! We found some information and facts about dolphins at Dolphin Facts and Information. We learned a lot of great information about dolphins while browsing that site!
- 36 different species: 32 marine species and 4 river species

- Can leap up to 30 feet in the air!
- Can go 20 seconds to 30 minutes between getting air!
- Have 100 teeth not used for eating but for capturing fish and swallowing them
- Consume up to 30 pounds of fish each day!
Esmeralda has loved dolphins for several years now, ever since some friends of ours in Texas sent her a bath toy that contained a lot of different colored dolphins! When she saw the coloring page I had printed for her, she could not wait until it was time to color it! She kept calling it the “kitty dolphin” coloring page since Hello Kitty is on it. She does not know who Hello Kitty is, only that it is a cat.
This time I instructed Esmeralda where to put the colors on her coloring page by asking her questions. First she absolutely wanted to color her dolphin purple so I let her choose that color. She also chose blue, pink, and orange. I asked her what color she thought the sun should be, and she said orange. Then I asked her what color the ocean should be, and she said blue. Finally I asked what color the kitty should be and she said pink! She was adamant that I write her name on her page, so I had her spell her name out loud for me before I wrote each letter.
Last week she loved adding the cougar to her nature book but move over cougar, Esmeralda has a new favorite!
